Allure of the Seas is a familiar sight in St. Maarten. During her first five years in service, she called at the popular eastern Caribbean port every 14 days. In this photo essay, we see one such port call.

On this winter morning, Allure is approaching the cruise port at Philipsburg from the north (above).
Arriving at the port, Allure passes in front of Regal Princess, which is docked at the more northerly of St. Maarten's two piers (right). Rather than take the ship into the slip bow first, her captain elects to turn the ship so that her stern is toward the island (below left and right). |
When the weather conditions are good on arrival in port, many captains prefer to back into a berth. This makes it easier to depart. You never know for sure what the conditions will be like at departure time.
