CARNIVAL SUNRISE
PROFILE

Picture

Summary

The Carnival Sunrise is a large resort style ship. She is the product of an extensive makeover of the Carnival Triumph. Carnival spent some $200 million dollars to gut the ship and re-create it in the image of its most recent ships. While Sunrise may not have everything that Carnival Horizon has, she is in the same ballpark.

As Carnival Triumph, the ship was the second ship built in Carnival's Destiny class. The lead ship in that class, Carnival Destiny, underwent an extensive makeover in 2013, emerging with a new name - - Carnival Sunshine. That transformation was so successful that Carnival decided to follow up with similar transformations of Carnival Triumph and the third sister, Carnival Victory. Therefore, Carnival Sunrise can be thought of as the second ship in Carnival's Sunshine class.

The transformation gave the ship a new personality. Gone is its shock and awe, Las Vegas style décor. Instead, she is now styled like a contemporary resort - - similar to Carnival Sunshine and to recent ships such as Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon. The change in style includes both the public areas and the cabins. Furthermore, more than a hundred new cabins were added including spa-related cabins and a captain's suite.

Like Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Sunshine also has many of the signature features of the more recent Carnival ships. It has a waterpark with waterslides and other features designed to entertain young cruisers. There is a Sports Square including mini-golf, ping pong tables and pool tables. A Skycourse ropes course provides entertainment for the action-oriented. For those looking for a quieter time, Sunshine has an adults-only Serenity deck.

The interior includes a remodeled theater (Liquid Lounge) and a new Punchliner comedy club. There is also a Red Frog Pub, a piano bar, a Cherry on Top sweets shop and a JavaBlue coffee outlet.

Sunshine has two main dining rooms and for dinner guests can opt for either traditional set time dining or a flexible dining system. In addition to a remodeled buffet, casual venues include pizza, a Mexican eatery and a Guy Fieri hamburger venue. Extra-tariff specialty restaurants include a Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, a Cucina del Capitan Italian restaurant and a Bonzai Sushi venue.

Nautically, the ship remains diesel-electric powered. An emergency generator system has been installed to avoid a repetition of the notorious loss of power incident that occurred on Carnival Triumph in 2013.

While Carnival Sunshine may have a 20+ year-old hull, she offers a cruise experience comparable to Carnival's recent ships.
