Celebrity Summit is no stranger to Bermuda. Sailing from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, Bermuda has been her primary summertime destination since 2010. It is an itinerary well-suited to Summit. The ship's primary power plant consists of two gas turbine engines. While these engines are quite efficient, the cost of fuel for such engines is quite high. On the Bermuda run, Summit does not need to go fast (she can do 24 knots) in order to arrive on schedule. In addition, during these week long cruises, the ship spends much of her time docked. Her auxiliary diesel engine can be used to provide power (for example, for the hotel operation) while she is in port. Beyond these fuel economies, Bermuda is an upscale island and so fits nicely with Celebrity's more sophisticated clientele.
