There is also branded entertainment. For example, the ship's Limelight Lounge houses the Punchliner's Comedy Club presented by George Lopez. “He gets full involvement with anything to do with the comedy club. He is even involved in the hiring and the suggestions for our comedians and the content they use. Popular, he is a solid name in comedy here in the United States, lesser known in Europe. Our guests, specically out of Miami, relate very well to the name. Our comedians are proud to be part of his brand name and Carnival at the same time. There are two strong brand names.”

In the main theater, the traditional production shows have been replaced by Playlist Productions. “There are four [shows]: Brits, a history of British music; Motor City based on Motown; Latin Nights which is based on Latin music; and Divas, which is based on top names of the last 30 years in the industry. The fact that we have eight performers now, all of them singing, all of them dancing, is different than the traditional eight dancers and two singers. Very well accepted in Europe. Extremely well accepted here in the United States. For two reasons: they are high quality shows [like those] that you see on TV or concerts here in the United States. And they are the tunes of what the Americans hear every day on their radios and on their TVs. In Europe it was a little bit different than what they are used to. The performers do a fantastic job. It is not easy to sing and dance for 35 solid minutes.”

Breeze has also taken a non-traditional approach to scheduling its shows. “Sometimes guests are having fun and they miss the show.” In the past, a given show was done once a cruise, “and if they missed it on that night, they will never see it. We repeat the shows. If you miss it tonight, you see it another time.”

Traditional scenery has been replaced with LEC screens. “Those screens are amazing. Its a $1.2 million investment in those screens just on this ship.”

Another new entertainment concept debuting on Carnival Breeze is the Thrill Theater where guests can experience 4-D movies. For more traditional movies, Breeze has its giant outdoor LEC screen located in the Beach Pool area.

The human element

As discussed above, Carnival Breeze looks different than previous Carnival ships and has an unmatched array of features. However, the success of any ship depends upon the people who operate it. Here too, Carnival is taking a new course.

“Carnival Breeze was the first ship in the fleet to roll out the Carnival Service Values. By the end of this year, every ship in the fleet will have rolled out the Carnival Service Values.” The Carnival Service Values sets forth the line's mission statement and lists eight supporting principles vital for employees to accomplish that mission. (See a copy of the Carnival Service Values).

“This is the bible for our crew members to follow. We ask every crew member to believe in these eight values and in our mission statement because if you believe in this and deliver it, not only for our guests but between ourselves, this will be a better Carnival.”
“This is a journey for us. It is not a training, a discipline, this is a lifetime journey which personally I have adopted when I am onboard and when I am at home. This is what I believe in as a hotel director. This is what every single crew member onboard should believe. ”

“We take a journey of about four hours, educating our crew members on our mission statement and our values. After those four hours, they leave so hyped up, so positive, so empowered. This becomes part of your DNA, it becomes part of your blood. You don't need training anymore because this is how you behave every day.”

“This is our success. This will lead to dollars. This will lead to loyalty. This will lead to guests coming back to us. This will lead to full ships. This will lead to building more ships. This will lead crew members to continue their careers with us. This will lead to crew members not exploring other cruise lines. This will lead to crew members who have opportiunities on land deciding to stay with us. This will lead to the new Carnival. This is bigger than anything we ever did the last 30 years. “
