Queen Mary 2 was built to do transatlantic crossings between the United Kingdom and the United States. The western terminus of her journey is New York City while the eastern terminus is Southampton. (On some crossings, the ship does proceed further eastward to either Hamburg or Cherbourg but her homeport is Southampton).
When she is in Southampton, it is not unusual to see QM2 at the Ocean Terminal (below left) or the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal (below right).
When she is in Southampton, it is not unusual to see QM2 at the Ocean Terminal (below left) or the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal (below right).
However, on 21 July 2014, QM2 was seen at the City Terminal. Although this terminal is next to the Carnival UK office building, it is more often used by the ships of Royal Caribbean International and affiliates.
Naturally, this unusual positioning led to rumor with the most prevalent tale being that the ship was moved in order to accommodate a former U.S. President who would be a passenger on the upcoming crossing. Actually, she changed to the City Terminal so as to faciltate the schedule of a distinguished visitor. |
The City Terminal abuts Mayflower Park and so the Park offers good views of ships berthed at the City Terminal (below).
